Hey FlutterFlow Community! 👋
We are extremely proud and more than happy to share that one of our projects, WildSound, won App Design of the Year Award at the FlutterFlow Developers Conference in NYC! 🧡
We’d love to take you behind the scenes, or better call it, behind-the-app design and development process – and share the vision that shaped the app you see today.
Our Vision for WildSound?
→ To Go Against Modern UX by Slowing Users Down and Reconnecting Them with Nature.
WildSound is a lifestyle meditation app designed to help users relax by connecting them with nature through the harmonious and meditative sounds and interactive visuals of the world’s most sonically beautiful rivers and rainforests – creating an experience that feels like you’re truly there.
Make a Difference for Our Planet with WildSound
WildSound partners with NGOs, allowing you to choose an organization to support. So, why not relax and help the planet at the same time?
Turns out, Going the Extra Mile in Our Design and Teamwork, Really Pays Off.
This app wouldn’t be what it is without the awesome teamwork behind it!
We brought together our designers, developers, and project managers to share different opinions, perspectives, and ideas, putting our dedication and diverse expertise into every aspect and detail of the project!
We put a lot of thought into details that may seem small on their own, but each one is strategically designed and placed to improve how the app feels and functions. These seemingly small elements work together to make every tap, swipe, and interaction more seamless, ultimately enhancing the overall app experience and making it feel more polished and effective.
Moving Beyond Engagement-Driven UX Design to Prioritize Mindfulness in Engagement
We wanted to make sure that the design is aligned with the app's mission of providing a calming experience, allowing users to escape daily stress and genuinely reconnect with nature.
So, we intentionally designed the app and its interactions to encourage slow, mindful use, helping users relax and engage with the app at their own pace – completely opposite to the fast, attention-driven engagement tactics common in today’s UX design.
Take a look at our design approach and see how going the “extra mile” (our motto, by the way!) in every phase showcases that our design and development approach works.
We delivered the complete UX and UI for mobile development, including both light and dark mode versions.
FlutterFlow – The Perfect Choice for WildSound
Having worked on many different projects with FlutterFlow over the years, it was a no-brainer for us to use it for WildSound as well.
Once we had our design system, we quickly imported it into FlutterFlow. Its intuitive drag-and-drop interface made the development process faster and more maintainable. Our team could rapidly prototype, customize features, and integrate essential components, all while preserving the original design, functionality, and user experience of WildSound.
Since the goal was to scale the app globally, FlutterFlow’s flexibility is perfect for adding new features or making updates, allowing us to easily adapt the design to meet the evolving needs of WildSound's users in the future.
In short with FlutterFlow, we were able to create a user experience focused on slow and mindful engagement with:
1 Interactive Visuals That Make You Feel Part of Nature
We decided to go with the parallax effect integration with FlutterFlow, which enabled users to achieve that when they move or tilt their devices, the visuals respond dynamically, creating a realistic sense of motion and depth – allowing them to feel more connected to the serene landscapes within the app.
2 Creating and Saving Your Favorite Relaxing Sounds for Any Mood
For an even more personalized experience, we also integrated the option to save your preferred sounds and make your own list based on your mood. By having your preferred sounds at your fingertips, you can tailor each meditation session to create the perfect atmosphere for your relaxation.
3 Long Press Animation Buttons and Fading Transitions for More Mindful App Interaction
Fast-paced taps just wouldn't cut it for WildSound. That’s why we chose long press animations – these invite users to slow down and truly engage with their choices. The fading transitions enhance this experience, making each interaction feel even more intentional and connected.
4 Custom Components That Add the Extra Mile to Our Design
5 Supabase Integration for a Scalable and Secure Backend
We’re super excited for all the upcoming projects and can’t wait to apply everything we’ve learned from this app design and development experience, along with all the new releases that FlutterFlow has launched!
