Google Maps API Key is not in the android manifest

I built a custom widget for google maps using google_maps_flutter and when I run it the logs says that the api key is not in the android manifest and that I need to add it. Does anyone know why is that?

What have you tried so far?

I downloaded the code and added the api key manually and it worked but this will make me have to deploy from github and I don't want to do that
