Issues getting back swipe to work consistently

To what I understand, the only way to successfully activate back swipe is to utilize default transition type, and make sure that Back Navigation is switched on. The problem for me arises with some pages that it simply does not work with. I was wondering if there was any way to consistently get it to work? Am I missing something?

What have you tried so far?

I have some pages working and some don't. It ruins the consistency in my app's UX as it gets frustrating having to reach up to the back button instead of the smooth transition that is back swiping.
