Displaying subcategories or list of cities from each country (list of strings) in a dropdown for user to select or filter by

how do I display the list of cities from appstate as options in dropdown. I have them stored as a datatype but can;t retrieve it like I can with the countries. The cities need to be linked to each country in our marketplace
